Brass Door Restaurants famous pork chops started in 1982 when then
owner Don Davidsmeyer wanted to increase business at the small town
restaurant he had purchased a few years earlier. He knew volume was
a key to his success and wanted to use pork in this formula. He also
wanted to utilize the family style dining concept which he had seen
as successful at other restaurants across the country. The steaming
bowls of mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, biscuits and award
winning golden fried pork chops became popular with the locals immediately.
Soon customers were coming from outside of Greene County from all
over west central Illinois and the St. Louis metro area to enjoy “those
good pork chops.”
Today the Brass Door is in the second generation of ownership by
the Davidsmeyer family. Don’s daughter and son-in-law
have operated the restaurant for more than a decade.
Seeing it through incredible growth, a joist to rafter kitchen remodel,
out-side makeover and a dining room remodel, and are
quick to give a lot of credit and praise to the many wonderful and
loyal employees who have helped them along the way. The mission has
always remained the same: Serve top quality meats and produce prepared
consistently and creatively with up most care and service to the
general public with courtesy and respect in a clean and friendly
environment.
What a lot of people don’t know about the Brass Door is that
our Prime rib is almost as popular as our pork chops. Served only
on weekends (Friday & Saturday) our Prime rib is cooked to order
and served au jus with horseradish and a choice of potato and salad.
While never having been prominent on our menu our rich Caesar salad
is very popular and has quite a following. We also offer a variety
of hand cut steaks, fried or broiled chicken, fish and our crunchy
golden fried jumbo shrimp. Whether you’re hungry for family
